Commission (CNSC), Hydro-Québec was required to perform detailed safety
analyses, including containment and public doses analyses, for
Gentilly-2 nuclear power plant.
work consisted of developing and testing the GOTHIC, SMART and ADDAM
models of the reactor building, fission product transport and
atmospheric dispersion for the Gentilly-2 nuclear power plant. GOTHIC
nodal and 3D models were developed and used for several accident
GOTHIC, SMART and ADDAM models were used to perform public doses
calculations for moderator events (tritium), including loss of heat sink
and loss of moderator inventory. They were also used for public dose
calculations for multiple steam generator tube rupture and pressure tube
and calandria tube rupture with consequential end fitting failures.
GOTHIC was also used to simulate ECC conditioning signal for pressure tube and calandria tube rupture, and high reactor building trip for small LOCAs scenarios.
The work was contracted by Hydro-Québec to AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd). Pascal Hernu was the technical lead. Gilles Sabourin assumed technical supervision.
