Reliability Analysis and Licensing Support for Gentilly-2 NPP

SCOPE

Support Gentilly-2 operation using reliability and risk-informed approaches.

DESCRIPTION

Over the years Montréal Nuclear Services partners built a close relationship with Gentilly-2 operating team.  In several occasions the reliability team was able to support plant operation using reliability models and approaches and risk-informed approaches.


The activities performed included

  • Development of safety related fault tree models (SDS1, SDS2, ECC, SDCS, Electrical Distribution systems, etc.)
  • Input preparation to the annual plant reliability report
  • Support to the development of a reliability failure database
  • Benefit Cost-Assessment BCA) using the COG methodology was used to rank design options to cope with Pressure Tube / Calandria Tube rupture with end-fitting ejection (95G02)
  • Support application of the Risk-Informed Decision Making (RIDM) process for EWS valves design modification, Service Water diesel pump unavailability


The models used up-to-date Gentilly-2 operation practises and existing fault tree models.​

NOTE:  This work was performed / lead by MNS personnel during their previous employment
OUTCOME
  • These activities helped Gentilly-2 to meet its reliability and risk related licensing obligations
